Football Game Preview: Moffat County Bulldogs vs. Basalt Longhorns

The Moffat County Bulldogs will face off against the Basalt Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Moffat County has given up an average of 37.9 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Moffat County is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They were beaten by Aspen 47-14. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-0.

Although Moffat County took the loss, they still got scores from Owen Hill and Chance Knez.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Basalt). They walked away with a 37-25 win over Coal Ridge on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Moffat County better keep an eye on Will Tarallo. He was instrumental in Basalt's win, rushing for 246 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.4 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Tarallo is now averaging an impressive 103.6 rushing yards per game.

Basalt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 291 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 89.5 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 197.7.

Basalt didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Karson Schneider and Parker Sims. Basalt received some extra help from Brooks Ragan, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Moffat County's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Basalt, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Moffat County was dealt a bruising 48-7 defeat at the hands of Basalt in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Bulldogs, Taylor Hays (who picked up 100 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also rushed for 56 yards and two TDs) won't be suiting up this time.
