Softball Recap: Needles Takes Down Ranked Pahrump Valley

Needles is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Pahrump Valley. The Needles Mustangs came out on top against the Pahrump Valley Trojans by a score of 25-21. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Emmerson Powell, who went 6-for-7 with one home run, six runs, and two triples. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Scotti Powell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Needles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Needles and bumps their season record up to 7-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games. As for Pahrump Valley, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Needles will host Awaken Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Awaken Christian knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Needles likes a good challenge. As for Pahrump Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sports Leadership & Management at 3:30 p.m. on March 26th.
