Baseball Game Preview: Millard North Mustangs vs. South Gibson Hornets

The Millard North Mustangs are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the South Gibson Hornets at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

Millard North is leaving town to face South Gibson after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Millard North took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grand Island on Friday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Chase Machal led a balanced group of hitters, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jackson Smith was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Millard North hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grand Island struck out 11 times.

Meanwhile, South Gibson's hitters rose to the challenge against a Panthers pitching crew that boasted an average of only 4.09 runs allowed on Thursday. South Gibson blew past Elmore County 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Gage Allen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Allen was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
