Volleyball Recap: Mater Dei Wins High-Profile Contest Against Punahou

Mater Dei is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Punahou. The Monarchs came out on top against the Buff n' Blue by a score of 2-0. For the Monarchs, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 win the Buff n' Blue walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2022.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-17.

Westley Matavao paced Mater Dei's offense, picking up nine kills. Matavao got some help from Sam Capinpin and her six assists.

Mater Dei's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Punahou, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.

Mater Dei has already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against Folsom on the 19th. As for Punahou, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 victory against Moapa Valley on the 19th.
