Softball Game Preview: North County Knights vs. Northeast Eagles

The North County Knights will take on the Northeast Eagles at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

North County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Broadneck, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Knights fell just short of the Bruins by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Knights were not able to get on the board.

Alexis Garrison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, while Northeast put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Crofton. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Crofton. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Tiffany Mewshaw was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Carleigh Canada was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Northeast kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

This is the second loss in a row for North County and nudges their season record down to 5-5. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs. As for Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

North County suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Northeast in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
