Football Game Preview: Cooper Cougars vs. Del Valle Conquistadores

The Cooper Cougars will head out to face off against the Del Valle Conquistadores at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cooper has given up an average of 29 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cooper is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since September 5th on Thursday. They lost 52-28 to Palo Duro. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Cooper got top-tier performance from Peyton Ewing, who rushed for 153 yards and one TD. The Cougars are 4-1 when Ewing posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Del Valle entered their tilt with Burges last Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They breezed past the Mustangs to the tune of 63-19. The result was nothing new for the Conquistadores, who have now won six matchups by 30 points or more so far this season.

Cooper better focus on containing Jake Fette and Dante Eytcheson as the pair were huge in Del Valle's win. Fette threw for 459 yards and three touchdowns while completing 79.2% of his passes, while Eytcheson gained 154 total yards and four touchdowns. What's more, Fette racked up 159.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Ivan Lopez also helped out with an impressive 112 receiving yards.

Del Valle was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 228 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in eight consecutive games.

One reason for the win was Del Valle's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Aaron Gutierrez with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Cooper's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Del Valle, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.

Cooper was taken down by Del Valle 63-35 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
