Basketball Recap: Verdugo Hills Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Verdugo Hills suffered their biggest loss since January 20th on Tuesday. They were outmatched by the Valencia Vikings and fell 81-37. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dons of the 73-47 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

Verdugo Hills' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicole Olivera, who posted 14 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kayla Pimentel, who put up 16 points.

Valencia was led to victory by Cara McKell and Kamilla Basyrova. McKell went 9-for-16 en route to 32 points and seven steals, while Basyrova shot 53% from the field on her way to 25 points along with seven boards and four steals. The game was Basyrova's fifth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Calayag, who had ten points.

Verdugo Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Verdugo Hills is taking a road trip to face off against Cleveland at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valencia, they will be playing at home against Granada Hills Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
