Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

Holmes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat. They took a blow against the Taft Raiders, falling 85-51. The Huskies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-24.

Holmes' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Smith, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Ramon, who posted nine points and five steals.

Holmes' record now sits at 4-24. As for Taft, the win snapped their losing streak at 12 games and leaves them with a 6-20 record.

Holmes and Taft could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Holmes (ranked 960th) will meet Warren (ranked 397th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Taft will face off against Stevens at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday down 450 places (776 vs. 326).
