Gatewood hadn't done well against Briarwood Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Gators walked away with a 15-10 win over the Buccaneers. Winning may never get old, but the Gators sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Gracie Lowery looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Riley Roberts was excellent, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Thrift, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Gatewood hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 7-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Gatewood's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Briarwood Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gatewood will venture away from home to take on Thomas Jefferson Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Briarwood Academy, they will head out to square off against Lincoln County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
