Baseball Recap: Caroline Sets Scoring Season-High Against James Monroe

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Caroline). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the James Monroe Yellow Jackets a 14-0 shutout on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Cavaliers with their most commanding win of the season.

Landyn Foltz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Caroline let Alex Thomas and Baylor Storke run wild. Thomas went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base, while Storke went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Thomas has become a key player for Caroline: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeron Morris, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Caroline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James Monroe only posted an OBP of .250.

Caroline now has a winning record of 7-6. As for James Monroe, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Coming up, Caroline will head out to take on Courtland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for James Monroe, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Maggie Walker at 5:30 p.m. James Monroe's pitchers better be ready for this one: Maggie Walker has averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
