The Pleasant Grove Vikings will head out to challenge the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Pleasant Grove sitting on six straight wins and Maple Mountain on 17 (dating back to last season).
Pleasant Grove had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Layton on Monday. Pleasant Grove was the clear victor by a 10-4 margin over Layton. Considering the Vikings have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddux Webb looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Drew Smith and Mason Hawk Henry did most of the damage at the plate: Smith scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Henry went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Smith a new career-high. Nash Clement also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Pleasant Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Layton only posted a batting average of .091.
Meanwhile, Maple Mountain posted their closest victory since May 22, 2024 on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Davis, sneaking past 7-5.
The team relied heavily on Cy Chrisman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. AJ Thomas was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Pleasant Grove pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Maple Mountain, their record now sits at 10-0.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pleasant Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .486. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pleasant Grove couldn't quite get it done against Maple Mountain in their previous matchup back in March of 2017 as they fell 6-2. Can Pleasant Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
