Softball Recap: Julian Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Julian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Borrego Springs Rams by a score of 7-6 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.

Hailey Bennett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Cosson, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Charlee Sparks, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Julian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Julian's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Borrego Springs, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Julian will challenge rival Calipatria at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Borrego Springs is set to take on their familiar foe Warner at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Rams' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
