Pilgrim extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 5-11. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the East Providence Townies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Townies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-9 back in April.
Gretchen Dombeck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Lia Wasilewski was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Tuirok, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for East Providence, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 24th.
On East Providence's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Cassandra Dulude gave up four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, East Providence let Nethania Figueroa and Trinity Provencher run wild. Figueroa went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs, while Provencher went a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Provencher has posted since back in April. Caroline Welch was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pilgrim will take on Westerly at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Providence, they will face off against West Warwick at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
