Softball Game Preview: Annapolis Cougars vs. Garden City Cougars

Annapolis is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Garden City is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Annapolis will welcome Garden City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Annapolis let Thurston stack 12 runs on them in the first inning on Wednesday but luckily Annapolis prevailed anyway. The Cougars put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 21-14 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

Annapolis got a massive performance out of Kaelyn Clement 2025, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Clement 2025 has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Harleton 2026, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Annapolis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Garden City's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They never let Redford Union get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. Surprisingly, this marked the Cougars' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Garden City's win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Annapolis, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

Annapolis came out on top in a nail-biter against Garden City in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Does Annapolis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Garden City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
