South Bend Adams is 0-5 against Elkhart since October of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Eagles will welcome the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
South Bend Adams proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 21) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past South Bend Riley 10-8.

Among those leading the charge was Carson Bryce, who rushed for 129 yards. He has become a key player for South Bend Adams: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-3 otherwise.
Another reason for the win was South Bend Adams' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. Leading the way was Lamarr Shaw with 2.5. Shaw is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Franklin Passwater was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making 16 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elkhart). They breezed past Mishawaka Marian to the tune of 59-14 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their 12-point performance the game before.
South Bend Adams better keep an eye on Micah Jarrell. He was instrumental in Elkhart's win, rushing for 134 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 168 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes. Those 134 rushing yards gave Jarrell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alfonzo Newbern, who rushed for 57 yards and two scores on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Elkhart was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 172 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.
Elkhart didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cole Bell, Josiah Gladden, Keyon MacNeal, and Matt Alshahrani picked up one apiece.
Elkhart pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.0 points on average over those games. As for South Bend Adams, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
South Bend Adams was dealt a bruising 55-14 defeat at the hands of Elkhart when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Eagles, Connor Dow (who rushed for 65 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
