Basketball Recap: John Paul II Catholic Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Micah Gray-Hundell and Drew Lysaght

The John Paul II Catholic Saints were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 46-41 to the Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill Lion.

John Paul II Catholic's loss came despite strong showings from Drew Lysaght and Micah Gray-Hundell. Lysaght posted nine points, while Gray-Hundell scored three points and eight boards.

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill found their leader in sophomore Cannon Close, who went 8-for-12 to rack up 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Close. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Worsham, who earned nine points.

John Paul II Catholic now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

John Paul II Catholic will square off against Pungo Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-24 defeat against North Raleigh Christian Academy on the 2nd.
