Football Game Preview: Lamesa Tornadoes vs. Kermit Yellow Jackets

Lamesa is on a four-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Kermit a four-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. Lamesa will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Lamesa lost a heartbreaker the last time they played River Road, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Tornadoes breezed past the Wildcats to the tune of 63-33 last Friday. The Tornadoes' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Lamesa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deev Lugo, who rushed for 196 yards and one score while picking up 12.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 65 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Lugo showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 53 yards. Another passer making a difference was Daniel Ramos, who threw for 315 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lamesa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Meanwhile, Kermit took a blow against Big Spring last Friday, falling 49-14.

Lamesa will have to contain Armando Urias as he made an impact in Kermit's last game. He rushed for 110 yards and one TD on only ten carries, and also picked up 39 receiving yards.

Lamesa's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Kermit, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything came up roses for Lamesa against Kermit in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-18 win. Do the Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellow Jackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
