Softball Recap: Staunton River Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Staunton River had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Brookville Bees 13-3 on Wednesday.

Payton Evans was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Evans was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kailynne Keister, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Jordyn Booher was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Brookville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Staunton River will have a chance to go back-to-back against Brookville: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
