Basketball Recap: Unaka's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

If Unaka was riding high fresh off their 56-31 takedown of Volunteer last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Unaka Rangers took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hampton Bulldogs on Tuesday. The match was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but the Rangers couldn't quite close it out.

Several Rangers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michelle Shields, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 19 points. Shields is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. Kalli Shepard was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Piper Helle had an outrageously good game for Hampton as she went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Faye Carrico, who posted nine points.

Unaka's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3. As for Hampton, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Unaka wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-25 victory against Hancock County on the 6th. As for Hampton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-40 win against Unicoi County on the 6th.
