Baseball Recap: Globe Takes a Loss

Globe dropped down to 8-11 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 18-3 to the Florence Gophers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gophers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in March.

Globe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Layton, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Layton has hit this season.

As for Florence, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Florence's side, Jayden Magill and Jagger Navarro made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Magill tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Navarro pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Magill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Magill went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Navarro went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Magill has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Devlin Carberry was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kris Aguirre, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Coming up, Globe will look to defend their home field on Monday against Ray at 4:00 p.m. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Florence, they are taking a road trip to take on Hayden at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Lobos have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
