Football Recap: Columbia Comes Up Short

Despite a strong season so far, Columbia has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They took a blow against the Jersey Panthers on Friday, falling 49-21. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Columbia lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kameron Steele, who picked up 32 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Jackson Lawal got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Even if they lost, Columbia's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Ethan Habermehl and Cooper Foxx, who racked up four sacks between them.

Jersey's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Koenig, who threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 49 yards and one score. Those four passing touchdowns gave Koenig a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Trevor Tucker, who gained 198 total yards and two touchdowns.

Columbia's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Jersey, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7.

Columbia wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 48-15 loss against Breese Central on the 1st. Jersey does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
