Softball Game Preview: Notre Dame Regents vs. Pioneer Mustangs

The Notre Dame Regents will face off against the Pioneer Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Notre Dame is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Notre Dame was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against El Camino on Friday. The Regents blew past the Colts 16-3. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Regents considering their one-run performance the game before.

Molly Rogove made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamille Beals, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Jaz Mina was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Pioneer came up short against Christopher on Monday, falling 12-5. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost three in a row.

Evie Quinn was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Gizelle Ortiz, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Notre Dame is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pioneer, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Notre Dame took their victory against Pioneer when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 9-0 score. Do the Regents have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
