Preview: Cross County Cougars vs. Wood River Eagles

The Cross County Cougars will be home for the holidays to greet the Wood River Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Cross County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 27 points or more this season. They took their matchup at home on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 62-35 win over Centura. Given Cross County's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Centura is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cross County had a senior duo take command as Ashton Seim dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds and Tanner Hollinger dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The game was Hollinger's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Langdon Arbuck, who scored nine points.

Meanwhile, Wood River entered their tilt with Gibbon with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Wood River simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Gibbon 70-30 on the road. That looming 70-30 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Wood River yet this season.

Cross County's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Wood River, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Cross County came up short against Wood River in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, falling 68-62. Thankfully for Cross County, Tanner Hermann (who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
