Baseball Recap: E.E. Smith Takes a Loss

E.E. Smith extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-9. They fell 8-4 to the South View Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Tristen Spain was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. That run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jammari Roscoe, who earned one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.

As for South View, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On South View's side, Isaiah Alford was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Alford was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, South View let Brayden Barbour and Cam Sutton run wild. Barbour went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Sutton went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Barbour a new career-high.

Looking ahead, E.E. Smith will be taking part in a tournament against John Paul II Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. As for South View, they will take on Western Harnett in a tournament on Saturday.
