Preview: Far Northeast W Warriors vs. Thomas Jefferson Spartans
Far Northeast W has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Thomas Jefferson Spartans at TBD on Tuesday. Far Northeast W will be strutting in after a victory while Thomas Jefferson will be coming in after a loss.
You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Far Northeast W's strategy against Hinkley on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Far Northeast W blew Hinkley out of the water with a 49-11 final score. The victory was just what Far Northeast W needed coming off of a 55-23 loss in their prior game.
Far Northeast W found their leader in underclassman Yaretzi Barraza, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Ashley Rodriquez was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson struggled with assists on Thursday (Vista PEAK Prep had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Thomas Jefferson had to suffer through a rough 62-32 loss at the hands of Vista PEAK Prep. Thomas Jefferson was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-13.
Despite the loss, Thomas Jefferson saw an underclassman step up: Leyna Mcclinon scored seven points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anisa Adrovic, who scored ten points.
Far Northeast W's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Thomas Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Far Northeast W have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Thomas Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Far Northeast W took a serious blow against Thomas Jefferson in their previous matchup back in January, falling 68-25. Can Far Northeast W avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
