Basketball Recap: EPIC Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against ACERO Garcia last Wednesday, EPIC Academy came back down to earth. The EPIC Academy The Legends lost 47-25 to the Horizon Science Academy-Southwest Huskies on Friday. If the The Legends were looking for revenge after losing 12-2 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, EPIC Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mariah Clark posted 15 points. Clark's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Horizon Science Academy-Southwest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aislin Vazquez, who put up eight points along with 12 assists and six boards. Those six rebounds gave Vazquez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kelsy Bailey, who scored 15 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

EPIC Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Horizon Science Academy-Southwest, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7.

EPIC Academy will face off against Harlan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Horizon Science Academy-Southwest, they will take on Hansberry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
