Softball Recap: Avella Comes Up Short

Avella had lost six straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 0-11 to make it seven. They lost 17-2 to the West Greene Pioneers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 two weeks ago.

Avella saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Rush, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for West Greene, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.1 runs.

On West Greene's side, Caitlin Whyte made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Whyte was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, West Greene got a massive performance out of Kendra Tharp, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Emmaline Beazell was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avella will take on South Side at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Greene, they will challenge McGuffey at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
