Baseball Recap: Mulberry Find Success

Mulberry hadn't done well against Lake Region recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Panthers walked away with an 11-6 win over the Thunder. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Thunder, too.

Landon Smith looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caleb Arocho, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Willis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Mulberry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Region only posted a batting average of .214.

Mulberry's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-17. As for Lake Region, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Mulberry will be taking part in a tournament against Frostproof at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Lake Region, they will take on Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
