Recap: Cherry Creek Bruins vs. Mullen Mustangs
On Friday, the Cherry Creek Bruins faced the Mullen Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cherry Creek came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 52-42. The victory was familiar territory for Cherry Creek who now have six in a row.
It was another big night for Tianna Chambers, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Braelynn Barnett, who scored eight points.
Mullen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Allison Schwertner, who scored 11 points along with two steals and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Jones, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Cherry Creek pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Mullen, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Cherry Creek will head out on the road to face off against the Trailblazers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Overland is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season. As for Mullen, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Wolves at 5:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Grandview is ranked eighth, while the Mustangs are ranked 12th).
