Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Family Saints vs. Shawnee Mission Christian Mustangs

Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact the Cornerstone Family Saints proved on Friday. They claimed a resounding 53-16 win over Shawnee Mission Christian at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Cornerstone Family has managed all season.

Cornerstone Family was led to victory by Lexi Culberth and Kaylee Heinen. Culberth scored 11 points along with eight steals, while Heinen scored 26 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Culberth has scored all season. Liz Brown was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Shawnee Mission Christian still got an impressive performance from Jeydan Umberger, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Umberger is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Anderson, who scored five points along with six rebounds.

Cornerstone Family's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. As for Shawnee Mission Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cornerstone Family will take on the Nighthawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shawnee Mission Christian, they will be playing at home against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
