Basketball Recap: Cosumnes Oaks' Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Cosumnes Oaks was the 48-42 winner over Ponderosa when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack lost to the Ponderosa Bruins at home by a 57-38 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Wolfpack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Bruins are ranked 56th).

Despite the loss, Cosumnes Oaks still got an impressive performance from Caitlin Subejano, who went 8 of 16 en route to 24 points along with seven boards and three blocks. That was a full 63.2% of Cosumnes Oaks' points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Hughes, who had three points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Cosumnes Oaks' defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4. As for Ponderosa, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Cosumnes Oaks will be taking part in a tournament against El Toro at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. El Toro will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Cosumnes Oaks surely won't give up without a fight. Ponderosa and Union Mine will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Ponderosa's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
