Football Game Preview: Severance Silver Knights vs. Fort Morgan Mustangs

The Severance Silver Knights will challenge the Fort Morgan Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Severance will be strutting in after a win while Fort Morgan will be coming in after a loss.

Severance is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Mountain View 41-7. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-0.

Severance can attribute much of their success to Brady Iversen, who rushed for 67 yards and one TD on only six carries, and also threw for 99 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Iversen a new career-high in passer rating (149.8). Another player making a difference was Max Yahn, who rushed for 55 yards and one score on only five carries.

Severance's run defense was locked in: Mountain View could only muster 0.6 yards per carry. The Silver Knights' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.7 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.2 on average over their last five games.

Meanwhile, Fort Morgan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against Pomona, falling 65-14. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Panthers are ranked 24th).

Although Fort Morgan took the loss, they still got scores from Frankie Urias and Izeiah Ortiz.

Fort Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Severance, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6.

Severance strolled past Fort Morgan in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 21-6. Will the Silver Knights repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
