The Whitko Wildcats will challenge the Manchester Squires at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Whitko is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Whitko came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Fort Wayne Northrop, falling 11-3.
Hunter Long made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Crew Ebbinghouse, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Manchester). They blew past Churubusco 21-10 on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Squires considering their one-run performance the game before.
Landen Bean made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Hunter Hamilton was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in runs (two). Brendyn Mugford was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, one run, and one double.
Manchester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Manchester moved to 8-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Whitko, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Whitko has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Manchester struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
