Basketball Recap: Gibbs Eagles vs. Union County Patriots
The Gibbs Eagles were the 63-60 winner over the Union County Patriots when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Gibbs took a 84-69 bruising from the Patriots on Monday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (65), Gibbs still had to take the loss.
Gibbs' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zack Turner, who scored 24 points along with eight assists, and Mason Melton who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Turner hasn't dropped below 16 points for 12 straight games. Another player making a difference was Kamen Shown, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Gibbs dropped their record down to 11-14 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Union County, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-7.
Gibbs will head out on the road to face off against the Green Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Union County, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Highlanders at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. Scott has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 419 points over their last six games.
