Volleyball Recap: Cedar Springs Comes Up Short + How To Watch

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Cedar Springs and Sparta meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Red Hawks fell 3-1 to the Spartans. The Red Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Cedar Springs was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Sparta work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 26-24, 21-25, 25-11.

Taylor Gunderson paced Cedar Springs' offense, picking up nine kills. Gunderson got some help from Jessie Teesdale and her 20 assists. Finally, Taylor Babcock kept Cedar Springs' defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Cedar Springs has been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 16 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-19-3 record this season. As for Sparta, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-7.

Coming up, Cedar Springs will welcome Central Montcalm at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sparta, after both having extra time off, they and Lowell will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
