Football Recap: Villa Park Keeps Newport Harbor's Under Pressure

Villa Park won the last time they faced Newport Harbor and things went their way on Thursday too. The Spartans came out on top against the Sailors by a score of 39-26. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spartans' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Villa Park's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Parker Johns, Jayden Bracamontes, and Sebastian Hamblet, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Newport Harbor lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jake Meer, who threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 42 yards. Ty Ditteaux was in the mix too, providing Newport Harbor with two scores.

The victory got Villa Park back to even at 5-5. As for Newport Harbor, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Coming up, Villa Park will square off against Westlake at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Warriors' defense has only allowed 12.9 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them. Newport Harbor does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
