Softball Game Preview: Southlands Christian Eagles vs. Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles

After both having extra time off, Southlands Christian and Capistrano Valley Christian will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southlands Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Capistrano Valley Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Southlands Christian is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Western Christian just ended the team's six-game winning streak last Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Fighting Lancers. The Eagles were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the six matches prior), but the Fighting Lancers' pitchers proved too tough.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Capistrano Valley Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Calvary Chapel last Friday. Capistrano Valley Christian was the clear victor by a 12-5 margin over Calvary Chapel. The win made it back-to-back victories for Capistrano Valley Christian.

K Cammarato and K Cammarato made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Cammarato struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, K pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. K has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cammarato went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while K got on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That's the most stolen bases K has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on N Yu, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. M Meserve was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Southlands Christian's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-6. As for Capistrano Valley Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 3-10.
