Basketball Preview: Central Golden Eagles vs. West Springfield Terriers
Central has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They and the West Springfield Terriers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Central is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Terriers in Massachusetts (the Golden Eagles are ranked third, while the Terriers are ranked 90th).
Last Friday, Central beat the Blue Devils 61-48.
Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Swan out in front who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Swan continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Angela Hector was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Springfield's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in January after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Central on the road and fell 73-27. West Springfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-15.
Central pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for West Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Everything came up roses for Central against the Terriers when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 73-27 victory. With Central ahead 37-15 at the half, the game was all but over already.
