Basketball Recap: Laurel Hill Falls to L.E.A.D. Academy in First Game of Season

Laurel Hill unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 78-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the L.E.A.D. Academy Lions on Monday.

Laurel Hill's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiyana Dixon, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 16 rebounds. The game was Dixon's third in a row with at least 19 points. Savannah Riley was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

L.E.A.D. Academy found their leader in sophomore Bryse Burkett, who went 8-for-13 from beyond the arc en route to 42 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emily Harold, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Laurel Hill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-43 win against Central on the 20th. As for L.E.A.D. Academy, they have also already played their next contest, a 54-39 victory against Destin on the 20th.
