Basketball Recap: New Life Christian Academy Takes a Loss

New Life Christian Academy extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-8. They took an 80-66 bruising from the Riverside Christian Academy Royals. The Monarchs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Royals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.

Despite the defeat, New Life Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jeremiah Morrison dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. Morrison has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Jayden Graham was another key player, going 6-for-15 en route to 16 points and six boards.

As for Riverside Christian Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.7 points over those games.

Riverside Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Braydon Temple out in front who shot 56% from the field to rack up 22 points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds. Temple is becoming a predictor of the Royals' success: when he posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Moises Gonzalez, who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine steals.

Coincidentally, New Life Christian Academy and Riverside Christian Academy will both be playing American Leadership Academy the next time they take the court. The Royals will host the Navigators at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Monarchs will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
