Basketball Recap: New Life Christian Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Lashaude Mcelvine and Asany Richmond

New Life Christian Academy was the 44-42 winner over Harrells Christian Academy when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The New Life Christian Academy Monarchs might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders an easy 66-45 win. While losing is never fun, the Monarchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while the Crusaders are ranked 11th).

New Life Christian Academy's loss on Thursday came despite strong showings from Asany Richmond and LaShaude McElvine. Richmond went 11 for 14 on his way to 24 points and eight rebounds, while McElvine posted 11 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Richmond is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game.

Antonio Mckoy was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds for Harrells Christian Academy. The dominant performance also gave Mckoy a new career-high in assists (seven). Zicareian Mcneil was another key player, going 8 of 10 on his way to 19 points.

New Life Christian Academy moved to 7-11 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Harrells Christian Academy, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

New Life Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-50 loss against St. David's on the 20th.
