Croatan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kannon McBride, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. The game was McBride's 11th in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Taylor, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 17 points.
Meanwhile, White Oak didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Havelock on Wednesday, but they still walked away with a 67-61 victory. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Croatan better focus on containing Zarion Hobbs and Isaac Baxter as the pair were huge in White Oak's win. Hobbs went 8-for-14 en route to 30 points and six rebounds, while Baxter dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hobbs has scored at least a third of White Oak's points. Josiah Mattocks was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.
White Oak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Croatan's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for White Oak, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Croatan has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.8 boards per game. However, it's not like White Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Croatan beat White Oak 84-76 in their previous meeting back in February. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
