Softball Game Preview: Calvert Senecas vs. Wynford Royals

The Calvert Senecas will venture away from home to challenge the Wynford Royals at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Calvert got the win against Hopewell-Loudon by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Senecas have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Eilrich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Claire Shoenberger and Kate Coleman did most of the damage at the plate: Shoenberger got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Coleman went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Shoenberger has posted since back in March. Scarlett Faber was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wynford). They blew past Buckeye Central 18-4 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Royals in their matchups with the Bucks: they've now won four in a row.

Calvert's record now sits at 20-2. As for Wynford, their record is now 8-11.
