Softball Recap: Sanger Victorious

While Sanger's victory against Lemoore wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Apaches narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Tigers 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Apaches in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.

Emma Hernandez made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Maddi Arganda looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aundrea Orosco, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Santibanes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Sanger hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Sanger's record is now 11-7. As for Lemoore, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5-1.

Sanger and Lemoore should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Apaches will challenge Edison at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (73 vs. 688). Meanwhile, Lemoore (ranked 200th) will meet Tulare Union (ranked 526th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
