League recap: Northside scores huge upset over Greensboro

3A Region 3 recap Sept. 26, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Northside, who took down 189th ranked Greensboro, 33-18.

Garret Lewis and Braylan Smith provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Fayette County. The connection went for 77 yards, the longest such play in 3A Region 3 this season.

Sipsey Valley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Lewis threw for 169 and two touchdowns and Jamerius Leatherwood had 77 yards receiving. On the ground Carson Windle chipped in 92 yards. Tyler Duncan helped Sipsey Valley's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 64 yards.

Lewis has thrown for 302 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Leatherwood has three catches for 102 yards. Windle leads the league in rushing with 268 yards.

The Tigers were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, Fayette County defeated Sipsey Valley 33-21.
