Basketball Recap: Alana Hoskins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Oceanside over Carlsbad

Oceanside was the 58-45 winner over Carlsbad when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Oceanside Pirates took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carlsbad Lancers on Friday. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Oceanside lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alana Hoskins, who posted nine points along with eight steals and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Samad, who had ten points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Oceanside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive matchups.

Oceanside now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Carlsbad, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-10.
