Softball Preview: Hilmar Yellowjackets vs. Central Valley Hawks
The Hilmar Yellowjackets will face off against the Central Valley Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Hilmar easily dispatched Downey on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Hilmar fell just short of Summerville by a score of 15-13 on Thursday.
Hilmar got a massive performance out of Maribel Moreno, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Camryn Mattos, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Central Valley got themselves on the board against El Capitan on Saturday, but El Capitan never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Gauchos as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Gauchos recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Gabriela Delatorre was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Delatorre was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Central Valley got a massive performance out of Reylena Herrera, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Madelyn Morales was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Central Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Capitan only posted a batting average of .062.
Central Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Hilmar, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
