Basketball Recap: Marian Catholic Triumphs

Marian Catholic hadn't done well against Blue Mountain recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Marian Catholic made off with a 48-47 victory over the Blue Mountain Eagles. The win was all the more spectacular given Marian Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Blue Mountain is ranked 217th).

Leading Marian Catholic to victory were Dominic Catrone and Gregory Tirpak. Catrone dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 boards, while Tirpak posted ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin De La Cruz, who put up eight points.

Marian Catholic now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Blue Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marian Catholic will challenge Weatherly at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Weatherly's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Blue Mountain, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Pottsville at 7:00 p.m.
