Basketball Recap: Veritas Christian Comes Up Short

Veritas Christian was the 44-28 winner over Cornerstone Family when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles came up short against the Saints on Thursday, falling 70-49.

Cornerstone Family found their leader in sophomore Gabe Smith, who almost dropped a double-double with 33 points and nine boards. That makes it six consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of the Saints' points. Darcel O'Byrne also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Veritas Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Cornerstone Family, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Veritas Christian will head out to face off against Bishop Seabury Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Cornerstone Family, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Chanute Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
