Football Game Preview: Jones Longhorns vs. Blackwell Maroons

The Jones Longhorns will face off against the Blackwell Maroons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jones knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Blackwell likes a good challenge.

Jones' offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave on Friday, when they got past Oklahoma Christian's usually-dominant defense. The Longhorns walked away with a 40-28 victory over the Saints. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Saints recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Acyn Hansen and Creighton Allen. Hansen had a great game and threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes. Meanwhile, Allen was balling out in the loss, throwing for 404 yards and four TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes.

Jones didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jet Biby and Derek Templeton.

Meanwhile, Blackwell played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Mount St. Mary and fell 61-6. The Maroons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-0.

Jones' victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Blackwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Everything came up roses for Jones against Blackwell in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-6 win. Do the Longhorns have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
